The Courtauld Institute of Art
in association with
Operating Theatre Company
presents:

Lullaby at the Fabric of War exhibition

Fabric of War is the first exhibition outside the US of work by Combat Paper Project. This group brings together war veterans, many suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, who pulp their uniforms to make paper as the basis for cathartic artworks (combatpaper.org).

As part of this major event Operating Theatre Company will stage a reading of Dominic Leggett’s play, Lullaby, at The Courtauld Institute of Art on 19th June.

Lullaby is an uncompromising new drama about the destruction of innocence, and the personal and social costs of discovering the truth. It focuses on the struggle of soldiers returning from the front line, and was runner-up in Amnesty International/iceandfire's Protect The Human playwriting competition 2008. The cast (pictured opposite) includes Olivier Award winner Suzan Sylvester, Simon Chadwick, Charles De'ath and Rachel Morris.

Fabric of War will be accompanied by a Conflict Paper workshop tour of the UK in June, during which the group will travel with a portable papermaking studio, making paper from uniforms, flags, currency and other materials related to conflict. This will form the basis for a new artwork commissioned to mark the launch of the Troubles Archive, an online archive of art produced in response to the Northern Ireland conflict.

Other London events include an ongoing demonstration of papermaking throughout the weekend of the 13-14th June at the Imperial War Museum.

At Millennium Court Arts Centre in Portadown, Northern Ireland on 27th June, Combat Paper Project will lead members of the community in making paper from flags and banners relating to the Troubles.
